Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim slammed Marcus Rashford again during the post-match conference after a nervy 1-0 win against Fulham in the Premier League stating he would rather name his 63 year old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital on the bench than a player who does not give his maximum every day. This shocking statement came after Rashford was left out of the United squad again since his last outing against Viktoria Plzen in December. United’s narrow 1-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday saw Rashford extending the absence from Premier League matchday squads to nearly two months now.

The England international, once a key figure for United, has found himself sidelined under Amorim, who has repeatedly questioned the player’s effort in training. Speaking in his post-match press conference, Amorim did not mince his words: “It’s always the same reason – the training, the way I see what a footballer should do in life. It’s every day, every detail. If things don’t change, I will not change.”

United’s lack of attacking options was evident at Craven Cottage, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to provide the cutting edge in front of goal. Despite this, Amorim made it clear that Rashford would not be reinstated unless his attitude improved. “You can see on the bench we miss a bit of pace to change the game, but I would put Jorge Vital before I put a player that doesn’t give the maximum every day,” he added.

Rashford’s future at Old Trafford now hangs in the balance, with the January transfer window set to close in a week. Rashford has been linked with various clubs including Italian giants AC Milan and Barcelona. At the start of this saga with Ruben Amorim, Rashford hinted at seeking a new challenge following his omission from the squad against Manchester City in December. However, a January transfer to both AC Milan and Barcelona has lately cooled down because of the financial complications involved.

However, as far as Rashford is concerned, he needs to make up for his attitude and commitment in training with a clear message that his future at the club may be nearing its end without a solid commitment to changes during training. As the transfer deadline looms, both Rashford and Manchester United face critical decisions that could shape their futures.
