Manchester United are undergoing a rebuild amid the start of the Ruben Amorim era at Old Trafford and several players' futures are uncertain. A ton of signings are expected to be made next summer to help the coach further put his 3-4-3 system and brand of football in place.

One area of the team that could be in for many changes is defence, which has endured a tough season. Matthijs de Ligt arrived last summer from Bayern Munich for an initial £38.4m (per ), and it's fair to say the Dutch defender has struggled to live up to expectations, but it is early days.

Nevertheless, Amorim could opt to sign a new centre-back with question marks over the future of Victor Lindelof. The Swede has fallen down the pecking order, and he's remained coy about a possible departure next summer. Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT that he expects the 30-year-old to depart once his contract expires.

Manchester United Should Sign Dean Huijsen dubbed 'the new De Ligt'

Manchester United already have De Ligt but there is a new kid on the block at Bournemouth and he is shining this season. Dean Huijsen is a remarkable talent who is excelling in defence for the high-flying Cherries.

Huijsen, 19, is already on the radar of several European giants amid his stellar form. He's appeared 17 times in the Premier League, helping Andoni Iraola's side keep five clean sheets while chipping in with two goals, one of which came against United in a shock 3-0 defeat for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

Romano reports that Huijsen has a release clause in his contract which is bound to stir up a ton of speculation over a potential move. He's only been at the Vitality since last July but could be about to make a move to one of Europe's elite.

Chelsea are said to admire the Dutch defender, but Amorim should consider swooping for the teenager. He was dubbed 'the new De Ligt' when he rose through the youth ranks at Juventus and it's surprising the Old Lady sold him in £12.6 million given his world-class potential.

Ruben Amorim's Ideal Defence Next Season Should Consist of De Ligt And Huijsen

Manchester United's defence could look very different come next season amid a rebuild. De Ligt will likely stay put despite a questionable start at the club because he's only months into his spell with the Red Devils.

However, Lisandro Martinez has been inconsistent this season and his future isn't safe at Old Trafford. The same goes for Diogo Dalot who has struggled at wing-back while Luke Shaw is constantly injured and Tyrell Malacia has been poor since returning from a long-term injury.

Huijsen should be partnered alongside Noussair Mazraoui and De Ligt in a new-look back three for Amorim. Mazraoui has excelled as a right centre-back and allows Leny Yoro to develop as a rotational option.

Leece's Patrick Dorgu is United's top target this window and the club are keen to sign the winger to fill Amorim's left wingback spot. The two clubs are yet to agree on a fee but Romano reports that the Reds aren't giving up their pursuit.

The right wingback position may also need attending to amid Dalot's disappointing season. One player who could be a brilliant acquistion for the role is Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong who'll know De Ligt and Huijsen from the Netherlands camp. He's been a menace for Xabi Alonso's side with his pace and creativity and United have been linked in the past.
