Marcus Rashford’s tense situation at Manchester United is far from getting any relief as a report from The Guardian claims that his relationship with head coach Ruben Amorim has completely broken down. The two are no longer on speaking terms, with Amorim only addressing the forward when talking to the squad in general. This comes at a difficult time for the forward who is having a difficult time with the manager and the club.
The 27 year old has been out of favour for weeks, last playing for United on 12th December. Since then, he has only made the bench once but did not feature. Despite continuing to train with the first team, Rashford has been sidelined from Amorim’s plans, with the manager making it clear that only fully committed players will be involved.
After United’s narrow 1-0 win over Fulham, Amorim was asked whether Rashford could work his way back into the team. His response left little room for doubt.
“I will put my 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital on the bench before I put a player that doesn’t give the maximum every day,” Amorim said.

His comments were damning and hit a new low in the relationship between the English forward and Amorim. Amorim is of the view that Rashford’s effort in training has not met the standards required from a Manchester United player, hence his absence continues. Amorim did accept that United needed someone pacy from the bench against Fulham to change the game but he prefers it this way, emphasizing commitment and dedication in training as his priority.
Uncertain Future
Rashford has previously made it clear that he is open to a new challenge after he was first dropped by Amorim alongside Garnacho. Since then, United has been open to selling the forward or offloading him on Loan. However, with time running out in the transfer window, there are no clear destinations lined up for Rashford. Reportedly, Barcelona is in talks to sign the player but their own financial struggles are making it difficult for the transfer to happen. AC Milan were also linked but the links have since cooled down as the transfer window is nearing close.
Meanwhile, former United players have not held back in their criticism. Paul Scholes while commenting on the matter on Overlap suggested that Rashford should be removed from the dressing room, arguing that his attitude could set a bad example for younger players who look upto him. The Englishman is already 27 years old and should be setting an example for the youngsters but he is facing his own troubles.
With the transfer window closing down, it would be interesting as to how both Rashford and Amorim navigate this issue. Till then fingers remained crossed.
