Ruben Amorim has handed Casemiro a bit-part role in recent weeks, and talk is growing over a potential Manchester United exit before deadline day on February 3. The veteran Brazilian midfielder has remained on the bench in each of the Red Devils' last four Premier League games.

Serie A giants AS Roma have set their sights on Casemiro and the 32-year-old is 'open' to a move to the Stadio Olimpico, per Sky Italia. The Reds want to sell the five-time UEFA Champions League winner but are prepared to agree on a loan deal because of a lack of interest in a permanent departure.

Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 for around £70 million and he was standout performer in his debut season. Fast forward three years and he's on the outskirts of Ruben Amorim's first-team and judging by the Portuguese coach's words that isn't going to change anyti

Ruben Amorim on Casemiro: This Team Needs Players With A Very High Intensity

Amorim was asked about Casemiro's situation during an recent interview and he praised the qualities the Brazilian possesses but also explained how he perhaps doesn't suit his system. He said (via Sport Witness):

“We understand that Casemiro has other things nowadays. The intelligence he has, understanding the game, understanding where the ball is going to fall but we’re in a league that I can see, even in European competitions, the difference in intensity is big.

And so, I feel that this team also needs players with a very high intensity. And sometimes we don’t have that and sometimes that difference in characteristic can lead one player or another to play."

Casemiro has started 10 of 14 Premier League games this season, registering one goal. He's lost his status as a regular starter with Amorim preferring Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte as his midfield duo:

“Even the fact that the group has a certain characteristic as a group. I needed some players in certain positions with a slightly different pace. But we all know the quality Casemiro has and everything he won. And so, I have nothing to say about that. It’s just a choice.”

Casemiro Needs To Leave Before Deadline Day

Casemiro seems like an honest professional and a team player who won't make life difficult despite the frustrating period he's enduring. But he has lost a yard of pace which is what Amorim has hinted at in his explanation over his lack of game time.

Roma can offer him an Old Trafford escape, at least for the time being, and the club should accept this because it will allow Amorim to focus on bedding Toby Collyer, 21, into his midfield. The Italian giants should at least pay some of his hefty £300,000 per week wages which will help INEOS continue to try and balance the books.

Casemiro has just over a year left on his contract and the time is now to cash in on the former Madrid star. A move to the Saudi Pro League doesn't seem to be on the cards so a loan to give him game time and put himself in the summer shop window makes sense.
