Manchester United is reportedly in advanced discussions to sign Lecce’s highly rated left back, Patrick Dorgu, during the ongoing transfer window as per Fabrizio Romano. The 20 year old Danish international, who is also a target for London sides Chelsea and Tottenham, is rumoured to prefer a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United's struggles with injuries and inconsistency in the left back position have been well documented this season. New manager Amorim’s tactical style and favouring playing with two wing backs add more need for a versatile player on the left. Luke Shaw’s recurring fitness issues and Tyrell Malacia’s missing a long time from the first-team picture due to injuries have left manager Ruben Amorim with limited options. Consequently, right backs Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have often been played out of position to fill the gap. While they have provided a temporary solution, their playstyle has disrupted the overall balance of United’s defence and limited Amorim’s tactical plans.

Amorim’s reliance on attacking wing backs to drive forward play has made it crucial to bring in a specialist left back. Patrick Dorgu appears to fit the profile perfectly, offering a mix of youthful energy and tactical acumen that United currently lacks on the left side of their defensive shape.

Patrick Dorgu is a promising player who has gained significant recognition since joining Lecce. Known for his pace, attacking flair, and defensive acumen, the Danish has adapted impressively to the tough ask of Serie A physicality, something similar to the Premier League and Amorim’s tactical plan as well. His ability to contribute to both ends of the pitch makes him a modern full back and a perfect signing for Manchester United.

Standing at 6'2", Dorgu possesses a physical presence that adds to his overall game style. His technical ability and game intelligence have already made him a target among Europe’s elite clubs. Reports suggest that United scouts have been closely monitoring his progress, viewing him as a player with significant potential to develop further in the Premier League.

Lecce reportedly values Dorgu between £25M and £29M. When compared to high profile targets such as Nuno Mendes from PSG, Dorgu represents a more cost effective option while still offering considerable upgrade on the existing Manchester United defensive options on the left. United’s willingness to act swiftly and the defender’s desire to prefer a move to United could give them an advantage in signing the player over rival clubs including Chelsea and Tottenham. Bringing Dorgu to Old Trafford would address a key area of concern for Amorim’s side, allowing United to restore balance to their defensive shape and implement his preferred game style with a 3-4-3 formation.

While no deal is finalized yet, trusted transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that talks between the clubs are progressing positively. If United can secure Dorgu’s signature, it could prove to be a quality investment, giving the team a young prospect to develop into a mainstay for years to come.
