Manchester United look set to reward one of its biggest stars this season as the club is reportedly close to finalizing a new long term deal for Amad Diallo as per Fabrizio Romano. The 22-year-old Ivorian winger has shown great promise this season and cemented his place as one of the starters in the team under new manager Ruben Amorim. While the season has been tough for Manchester United, Amad’s performances have been a rare revelation for the club. With his new contract a priority for the club, talks are underway on a new contract set to be finalized soon.
Amad joined United from Atalanta in January 2021 in a 37 million deal. Questions were raised over the big money move but Amad was hailed as a future prospect by the club. Amad’s journey to becoming a starter at Old Trafford wasn’t straightforward at all as had his fair share of his time on the bench and away from the clubs on multiple loan spells. His spells at Rangers and Sunderland allowed him to gain valuable experience, and his return to Manchester marked the beginning of a steady progress. He has truly left a mark this season, more notably under Ruben Amorim. He has contributed six goals and seven assists in 28 appearances across all competitions this season. His most clutch moment came in the derby against Manchester City when his heroics sparked a dramatic comeback.
While the club had the option to extend his current deal, which expires at the end of the season, until 2026, they opted for a completely new agreement to reward him for a brilliant season and showing the intent that Amad is a player for the club’s future alongside a young exciting forward line that includes Garnacho and Hojlund as well. According to reports, this deal will run until 2030, with a potential one year extension clause as well.
Currently on a salary of just under £30,000 per week, his new contract is expected to triple his wages to around £90,000 per week. The significant pay rise underscores United’s recognition of his development and current form.
Incoming manager, Ruben Amorim has played a key role in unlocking Amad’s potential. Since taking charge in November, the Portuguese manager has utilized the Ivorian in various roles, including right wing back and attacking positions behind the striker. Amad has repaid the faith of the manager with consistently strong performances, featuring in all 12 matches under Amorim. His brilliant displays earned him United’s Player of the Month awards for both August and December as well.
As negotiations come to their conclusion and a potential announcement expected soon, United fans can look forward to seeing more of Amad's magic in the coming years.
