With just one game in charge, Man United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy already broke the record set by Erik ten Hag.
Last night, Man United progressed to the final eight of the EFL Cup. It was an emphatic game, by which Man United won comfortably against Leicester City.
On the touchline, Man United fans were treated to a new sight. After so long persevering through Erik ten Hag mediocrity, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was in charge of Man United.
Of course, the Old Trafford faithful needed no introducing to Ruud. He is a club legend and he is remembered for his incredible ability to find the back of the net.
Therefore, it shouldn't have come as a surprise to see Man United playing attacking football.
Ruud van Nistelrooy broke Erik ten Hag’s record in one Man United game
According to Statman Dave on X (formerly Twitter), Ruud van Nistelrooy broke Erik ten Hag's record last night. Under EtH, Man United had never scored five goals against Premier League opposition. In just one game under RvN, Man United broke that threshold.
Man United fans are not interested in belittling Erik ten Hag. He was a good manager for some time but unfortunately, he died out. He always showed the utmost respect to Man United, so fans owe him the same now he has gone.
However, it is fair to say that seeing Man United firing on all cylinders last night was great to see. It was a long time coming but it demonstrated that firing Erik ten Hag was the right call to make.
Man United fans are always careful not to get ahead of themselves. After all, they have been in promising positions in the past, only to resort back to the accustomed mediocrity. Therefore, fans need to see more in order to be convinced.
It remains to be seen what happens with Ruud van Nistelrooy in the future. He will not be handed a permanent contract, considering Ruben Amorim is coming in after the November international break. However, hopefully he remains as the assistant manager.
Next up, Man United faces Chelsea in the Premier League. This is certainly the hardest match which Ruud van Nistelrooy will face in his interim period. If Man United can pick up a result at home against Chelsea, they will be in a good position to push on during his transitional period.
