The England squad for the September international break has been announced. Lee Carsley has named two Manchester United players in his first squad.

England are set to face Ireland and Finland in the UEFA Nations League group stage. It is the first time the Three Lions have been in action since losing the EURO 2024 final in Berlin and, more importantly, the first time England have played since Gareth Southgate parted ways.

England are currently a nation who must be given time. In all honesty, the same fans who hounded Gareth Southgate to be fired must now accept the harsh reality they wished for.

Southgate is the second most successful England manager of all-time. So, the likelihood of someone coming in and doing better than he did is virtually zero. A lesson of "don't know what you've got until it's gone" will unfortunately be taught.

Alas, there is good news for Manchester United fans. In Lee Carsley's first announced England squad, he has named two Man United players.

In defence, Harry Maguire will be involved in the England squad throughout September. The defender has achieved 63 senior caps and has a great presence for England.

Particularly under Gareth Southgate, Maguire established himself as a mainstay for England and it helps that he's scored an impressive seven international goals.

In the midfield, Kobbie Mainoo will look to build on the incredible momentum he set whilst in Germany for the Euros. Mainoo was one of England's standout performers throughout the summer, so Carsley understandably paid close attention to him.

Recently praised by Paul Scholes, Mainoo is emerging into one of the best English midfielders. So, he will look to continue learning from the likes of Declan Rice and Conor Gallagher in the England setup.

Are there any Man United players who were unfortunate to miss out?
