Manchester United legend Raphael Varane has hung up his boots, just a few months after leaving. Man United have now sent him a heartfelt retirement message.

Manchester United has seen some incredible players come and go. Raphael Varane is certainly one of those great players, as one of the best defenders of his generation dedicated three seasons in Manchester.

Arriving from Real Madrid, Varane arrived with huge pedigree already. Time and time again, we have seen these moves fail. However, Varane was different, as he played at the same level at Old Trafford.

Plagued by injuries towards the end of his career, Raphael Varane believes now is the right time to step away from the sport. Upon his retirement, Man United sent Varane a nice message.

Posting to X (formerly Twitter), Manchester United's official account mentioned Raphael Varane directly, and thanked him for his three seasons of service at Old Trafford.

In their own words, Man United said: "You represented our colours with great distinction during your three seasons at Old Trafford. We thank you for your humility, leadership and commitment. May these qualities serve you well in your next venture. Once a Red, always a Red."

Raphael Varane replied with his own message to Man United, saying: "Special moments we shared! Manchester is a home away from home for me and my family. See you all again soon"

Raphael Varane joined Como in the summer but unfortunately picked up an injury. This meant that he was excluded from the Serie A squad list, so now is the right time to retire.

Raphael Varane can have no regrets looking back on his incredible career. As mentioned, he is without a doubt one of the best defenders of his generation and he will remembered well by Real Madrid and Man United.

Raphael Varane won four Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and one FA Cup. It is fitting that Varane helped Man United win the FA Cup in the last match of his career.
