Unfortunately for Cristiano Ronaldo, his second spell at Man United didn't pan out quite the way his first spell did. However, he's taken an unbias look at Man United and made a scathing Erik ten Hag analysis... But he's spot on.
It must be stated that Cristiano Ronaldo and Erik ten Hag didn't completely see eye-to-eye at Man United. While it wasn't outwardly stated, Ronaldo probably received a culture shock upon his return to Old Trafford, given his previous great relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson.
It doesn't take a genius to recognise that Erik ten Hag is nowhere near that calibre so naturally, Ronaldo who is at the height of the sport, did not completely gel with Erik ten Hag.
Cristiano Ronaldo makes a scathing Erik ten Hag claim but he's spot-on
According to Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter), Cristiano Ronaldo has assessed Man United from a macro perspective. He has said that Man United absolutely have to try to win the Premier League.
In his own words, Ronaldo said: “Man United manager… You cannot say that you're not going to fight to win the Premier League or Champions League. You’ve to say like: maybe we’ve not the potential but we're going to try. You have to try!”
Man United fans might not like hearing this but Cristiano Ronaldo is absolutely right. The time must be coming where Erik ten Hag's mentality is up for debate.
Erik ten Hag speaks a lot about "following the plan" but nobody can work out what the plan is. In fact, if the plan leads to poor results, then it is not a healthy plan.
Man United won the FA Cup last season. Let me start off by saying that the FA Cup is a great honour and as the oldest cup competition in the world, holds a lot of pedigree. But is this really the extent of Man United's success under Erik ten Hag?
Coaching Man United is a hard task and it is not for the weak. When you have club legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, Roy Keane, Ruud van Nistelrooy etc, you are bound to be under immense scrutiny.
Man United are a winning club. It's the exact reason why they became one of the biggest sporting entities in the world.
So, Cristiano Ronaldo is absolutely spot-on. You can throw out every excuse under the sun but Man United should be battling for only the best silverware. Anything else is, frankly, an underachievement.
