Marcus Rashford's future at Manchester United remains uncertain as speculation over a January exit continues to make news. According to journalist David Ornstein, while a departure is still on the cards, it's not all over for the English international as the door for Rashford to stay at Old Trafford is not entirely closed.

The 27-year-old forward has faced a tumultuous few months under Ruben Amorim’s management where he has not featured for United since being substituted during the Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen on December 12. Questions were raised about his performances in training, leading to his exclusion from subsequent matchday squads. Despite Amorim’s cryptic remarks suggesting the decision was “his choice,” sources close to Rashford insist he is eager to play and has no significant issues with the United head coach. However, he is still to get any minutes with the first team.

Rashford’s form this season has been average, with four goals and one assist in 15 Premier League games but the England international has a potential which yet remains unfulfilled. Rashford’s hefty wages reportedly £325,000 per week have made offloading him a complex challenge for the club. Top European clubs including AC Milan, Barcelona, and Borussia Dortmund have expressed interest, but negotiations haven’t picked up a pace due to financial limitations.

Barcelona reportedly leads the race for Rashford’s signature as the Catalan giants could try to meet United's financial demands if the Manchester club agree to share a major portion of his salary. However, owing to their own financial issues at the club, they remain cautious, preferring to offload players before committing to a deal. AC Milan and Dortmund are also monitoring the situation but share concerns about the player's wage demands.

Despite interest from major European clubs, Rashford has reportedly been training with United’s main group and is said to be fit and available for selection. Ornstein revealed that Rashford has been putting in extra training sessions and remains committed to the club if called upon. This dedication is still to bear any fruit for the Englishman as he waits to be called back by the manager but Rashford is putting the shift to keep his chances alive at his boyhood club.

While United is open to a loan move, they have been tight-lipped about any potential transfer and have not ruled out the possibility of Rashford staying. A departure at this time seems more likely, but Ornstein emphasized that any move must align with Rashford’s ambitions and the club’s financial dealings.

While Barcelona remains his preferred destination, a January transfer is far from straightforward so nothing can be certain at this time. With the transfer window deadline fast approaching, Rashford’s future is poised to make headlines. Whether he stays to fight for his place or embarks on a new chapter abroad, the next few weeks will be crucial in defining his career.
