Amorim’s Candid Assessment of Manchester United
Manchester United's new head coach Ruben Amorim has made a striking statement, describing the club as "a massive club but not a massive team." With United still struggling to find their footing in the Premier League, Amorim is attempting to steer the team back to its former glory, though he acknowledges the magnitude of the task ahead.

United have shown glimpses of improvement since Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag , but remains far from the outcomes he demands. The recent 2-0 defeat at Arsenal highlighted the gulf between United and the league’s top sides. Despite a slight rise in the table to 13th, Amorim views the Arsenal match as a reality check.

Focus on Improvement and Small Details
"We’re not one of the best teams in the league," Amorim admitted. "But this club, historically, is maybe the best one. That creates its own challenges. We have to focus on the small details to improve as a team."

Amorim’s focus has been on instilling work ethic and discipline in a squad that has been criticized for lacking effort in recent years. While his players have a punishing schedule, with 11 games in just 37 days, Amorim is adamant that effort is non-negotiable.

"If we want to win the Premier League, we have to run like mad dogs," he stated. "Even with the best starting XI on the planet, without running, they’ll win nothing."

Respect for Fans and Traditions
The Portuguese manager has also emphasized the importance of acknowledging the club’s supporters, particularly after defeats. Marcus Rashford’s decision to leave the pitch early following the Arsenal loss drew criticism, and Amorim addressed the issue without naming the forward directly.

"We have to applaud the fans, especially when we lose," Amorim said. "Everyone has to do it. It’s about showing respect for their support."

Navigating Complex Off-Pitch Issues
Off the pitch, Amorim has had to navigate complex situations. Last weekend, United opted not to wear rainbow tracksuits supporting the Premier League’s Rainbow Laces campaign due to defender Noussair Mazraoui’s religious beliefs.  Amorim stressed the need for unity within the squad and stressed on respecting players’ religious beliefs.

"It’s a hard issue to address," he explained. "There’s the club’s values, religious beliefs, and the team dynamic to consider. We won’t leave Nous alone; we’re a team."

Amorim also pointed out that the players, rather than isolating Mazraoui, chose solidarity over division, reflecting the club's commitment to respecting diverse perspectives while maintaining unity.

Building for the Future
While Amorim’s tenure has begun under challenging circumstances, his focus on hard work, respect for the club’s traditions, and fostering unity within the squad signals a long term approach. For now, Manchester United fans will hope Amorim’s candid and determined approach can bring about the change the club desperately needs.
