A Man United legend has publicly called INEOS for their recent decision to stop paying Sir Alex Ferguson. It has certainly divided opinion...
Man United are heading in a new direction. It is fair to say, they have been needing to change direction for some time now. Whatever they've been doing in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era hasn't worked in the slightest.
In fact, this is why the thought of Sir Alex Ferguson still brings a tear to Man United fans' eyes. Yes, he was an exceptional manager and one of the greatest of all-time, but his legacy is also heightened by United's lack of replacement since he left.
A recent decision made by INEOS resulted in Sir Alex Ferguson's paid contract expiring at Man United at the end of the season.
Man United legend calls out INEOS for Sir Alex Ferguson decision
Posting to his Instagram account, Eric Cantona has made a statement about Sir Alex Ferguson which has divided opinion. He was not happy about INEOS axing his paid role, claiming that Ferguson should remain in his paid role until the day he dies.
In his own words, Cantona said: "Sir Alex Ferguson should be able to do anything he wants at the club until the day he dies. Such a lack of respect. It's totally scandalous. Sir Alex Ferguson will be my boss forever! And I throw them all in a big bag of s***!"
While many Man United fans will understand where Eric Cantona is coming from, others might roll their eyes at the concept. At the end of the day, the money is not produced from thin air. So, the money handed to Sir Alex Ferguson is at the expense of other growth factors at the club.
To that, the natural rebuttal will be "well, take the money out of the players wages then." But, running a football club isn't that easy. When players are under contract, they are not forced to accept lower wages. Why would they offer, anyway?
Sir Alex Ferguson is a legend. His legacy will simply never be tarnished or forgotten about. However, for the sake of the club, decisions like this might need to be made.
