Manchester United’s teenage defender Ayden Heaven has dodged a major setback after scans revealed his foot injury is “not thought to be serious,” handing Ruben Amorim a timely boost ahead of the Premier League run-in. The 18-year-old stretchered off during United’s 3-0 win at Leicester City, has shed his protective boot and could rejoin training after the international break.

Heaven’s abrupt exit at the King Power Stadium sparked fears of a long-term absence, compounded by images of him leaving in a protective boot. However, The Manchester Evening News confirms the youngster is already walking unaided and targeting a return for United’s trip to Nottingham Forest on April 1. His Instagram message to fans “Thank you guys for all the support! I’m doing really well and recovering fast” was a breather for Amorim and Manchester United.

Heaven’s rapid rise from Arsenal’s academy to United’s first team in January has been meteoric. Thrust into action amid a defensive crisis as Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and Leny Yoro went out all injured, the teenager seized his chance with assured displays against Real Sociedad and Leicester. Amorim, rarely effusive, praised his maturity: “I really like his confidence. He’s good in defending the box and quite complete.”

The Portuguese boss added: “Today [vs. Leicester] was the most difficult game for him. We expect young kids to relax, but he was so focused. Let’s hope for the best.”

Bargain Signing

Signed for just £1 million, Heaven’s impact has been immense. His composure in United’s Europa League win at Sociedad, a full debut at just 18 earned plaudits, while his Premier League outing against former club Arsenal showcased how immense of a talent, Heaven can be in the future. Amorim’s 3-4-3 system demands versatility, and Heaven’s ability to play centrally or as a wing-back has made him a crucial absence during the injury absence.

What’s Next?

With United’s next game not until April 1, Heaven has a 16-day window to regain full fitness. His return would ease pressure on a backline missing several senior names in the backline. For Amorim, Heaven is an integral part now after the defender took the leap of faith and moved to Manchester United in search of first-team minutes. His move shows maturity beyond years and just what Amorim needs; players who take responsibility. If he continues to play like the performances he put in before his injuries, he is set to stay for a long time.

At a club craving stability, Heaven’s rapid recovery isn’t just good news, it’s a lifeline.
