Since his arrival as Manchester United’s manager, Amorim has endured a tough life. With results not reflecting well and off-field issues with players not helping the squad either, United legend Ryan Giggs has come in to support the Portuguese manager but seeks patience for the manager to rebuild the team after years of mess. Giggs thinks that Amorim has what it takes to steer the club back to its former glory days. He believes that if Amorim is provided with the necessary support and enough time to settle in, he can truly make a difference for the team.
“Like any business, recruitment needs to be right and hasn’t been for the last ten years,” Giggs said while talking to The Sun, condemning what he sees as a decade of poor decisions by the club’s management. “We’ve just made poor decision after poor decision.” His blunt critique points not only at past errors but also at the current leadership under part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, whose cost cutting measures and rapid changes have unsettled the club’s traditional approach.
Giggs is convinced that Amorim, despite inheriting a disjointed squad, is capable of rebuilding Manchester United. “We’re in a bad place at the moment but, first of all, I have to say I actually really like the manager. Given a chance and given time, Amorim will bring success back,” Giggs stated. However, he made it clear that the turnaround would not be instantaneous. “It’s whether he gets the players he needs, the support he needs—the time,” he added. In his view, Amorim requires a significant window—“three or four transfer windows, I think”—to assemble the squad necessary to challenge at the highest level.
The former winger’s was also critical on recent decisions made by United’s ownership. “We’ve tried giving managers a little bit of time but now he needs a bit longer,” Giggs said, highlighting the frequent managerial changes at Manchester United was not helping the club. Giggs’ criticism echoes a wider concern among fans and ex players alike that short term fixes have not helped the club for long.
As Manchester United look to turn their declining form, Giggs’ unwavering support for Amorim will be an uplifting one coming from a United legend as he rallies his squad for a revival after a bumpy start to his Manchester United career.
