Patrick Dorgu is close to sealing a move to Manchester United where the young Danish winger will expect to be Ruben Amorim's left wing-back. It's been an area in need of strengthening for over a year amid injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

The 20-year-old is pacey, agile and creative and has managed three goals and one assist in 21 Serie A games for Leece this season. He can play on either wing but the left wing-back position is most likely where Amorim will be using him.

This raises question marks over the futures of several United players and whether they will remain in Amorim's starting XI over the course of the next few months. There are already suggestions that Malacia could leave on loan, but Diogo Dalot is another one who may be looking over his shoulder once Dorgu arrives.

Dalot: I've Been In Competition Throughout My 'Life' At This Club

Dalot has been Mr Versatile for United over the past year, pulling shifts at right and left-back with Shaw and Malacia out of action. The Portuguese defender was a standout performer last season but hasn't replicated that form this term albeit tasked with a more difficult wing-back role under Amorim.

The 25-year-old spoke to The United Stand about Dorgu's potential arrival and what it may mean for his game time. He pointed out that he's always dealt with competition:

"It’s been my whole life at this club, competing.‘Nobody comes to Manchester United thinking that there’s not going to be competition for positions. That’s been my life at Manchester United all the time."

Dalot has made 35 appearances across competitions this season, playing on both sides of the defence. He added:

‘I feel pretty comfortable on both sides and, obviously, when you start playing a lot of games in the same position, it starts to become even more comfortable. Overall, I’m here to help.

Dalot could be a valuable asset for Amorim despite Dorgu's arrival as his versatility can give the Portuguese coach options while he looks to further implement his 3-4-3 formation. He has years of experience now he's been at Old Trafford since July 2018, when he arrived from Liga Portugal giants FC Porto.

Amorim Can't Rely On Dalot's Fellow Full-Back Luke Shaw

Shaw was back in training on the same day it was confirmed United had struck a deal with Leece to sign Dorgu. The English left-back has been sidelined since Amorim's first game in charge a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in November.

The 29-year-old's absence has been a massive blow as he'd have taken up that left wing-back role that has been lacking in creativity and a reliable mainstay. But Shaw isn't reliable enough amid his constant fitness issues, playing through England's Euro 2024 campaign.

Dorgu's arrival should signal the end for Shaw at Old Trafford because he just can't remain fit despite being one of the club's most talented players. Dalot is available every single week which is why Amorim should prioritise the Portuguese full-back over the former Southampton starlet if push comes to shove over their futures.
