After Erik ten Hag's sacking, Van Nistelrooy was left to pick up the pieces before Ruben Amorim's appointment. His task was to get the team back on track for success in the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and Europa League. He also had to find a way to get the team scoring goals, something that has plagued the Red Devils recently.
His first match as manager was against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup. The match gave him his first victory, a 5-2 rout of the Foxes. Van Nistelrooy found a way to get his side back to scoring goals and secured a place in the competition's quarter-finals.
His next match saw United draw 1-1 against Chelsea in the Premier League. Many fans were anxious about this match. Although it did not live up to all of the hype surrounding it, the two sides played out an edgy draw.
Van Nistelrooy's final two matches secured wins in the Europa League (2-0 vs PAOK) and Premier League (3-0 vs Leicester). These two games had a combined total of five goals for the Red Devils.

Throughout the first match against Leicester, the Dutchman was seen celebrating his side's goals and was clearly very excited by his team's display. Van Nistelrooy was extremely immersed in the game, even making his way into the visitors' technical area before the fourth official guided him back to his own. He celebrated Casemiro's goal like his own, probably reliving that feeling from all those years ago.
After the Carabao Cup match, the interim manager was visibly emotional on the sidelines. It marked his first win for the legendary club, and it was a spectacular win. Van Nistelrooy embraced his players and shared a special moment with Casemiro, who struck two goals on the night.

While many fans would have liked to see van Nistelrooy stay on the coaching staff, the club announced on Monday (November 11) that he would depart. After his spell as interim manager and a previous spell in charge of PSV Eindhoven's first team, he'll want to be back on the coaching scene as soon as possible.
With success as a former player and coach, van Nistelrooy should be seen as a good option for struggling sides. He has years of experience in both aspects and has proven what he can do on the touchline.
