Manchester United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy is set to be named next Leicester City manager after Steve Cooper's sacking.

Van Nistelrooy will take over at the King Power just weeks after leaving United, where he was initially Erik ten Hag's assistant manager, arriving in the Premier League in the summer. The Dutch icon served as interim boss following Ten Hag’s dismissal last month.

The Telegraph reports that Van Nistelrooy will become the new Leicester boss. The Foxes are in a race against time to get everything done so the Dutchman can potentially take over before their next game against Brentford on Saturday (November 30).

Van Nistelrooy set for Leicester after Manchester United departure

Van Nistelrooy is available for no compensation fee after being told he wasn't going to be part of a new era dawning at Manchester United. He left following the arrival of Ruben Amorim, who preferred to bring over his Sporting CP staff. The Red Devils legend was unbeaten during his Interim spell. He oversaw three wins and a draw in the four games he managed, two of which were against Leicester.

Manchester United scored six combined goals in those two games against Leicester, in both the Carabao Cup (5-2) and the Premier League (3-0). The 48-year-old wanted to stay and see out his contract as an assistant. He showed his desire to remain at Old Trafford in multiple press conferences, but his chapter with United was short-lived, for now.

The Dutchman previously managed PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie. He showed promise as a young tactician, winning the KNVB cup at the end of the 22/23 season. Despite being linked with Manchester United's managerial role, he was overlooked and now has a tough job dragging the Foxes out of trouble.

Leicester are just one point clear of the relegation zone, sitting 16th. Manchester United fans who were upset that Ruud had to depart from the club can celebrate a quick return to management in the Premier League.

Van Nistelrooy's first game should come against face Brentford this weekend before a midweek clash with West Ham United. Manchester United fans will definitely be keeping an eye on proceedings and rooting for their beloved legend in his anticipated
Leicester debut.
