As per Daily Mail, the Manchester United legend described his disappointment and how hurt he was after being told by the club that he was not needed at Old Trafford anymore last month. One of the best players in Manchester United history and an absolute legend for the club was appointed as interim manager following the departure of Erik Ten Hag. The Dutchman was sacked after a series of disappointing results, and it felt that it was only a matter of time. Van Nistelrooy signed a contract with Manchester United in the summer as an assistant manager under Ten Hag.

Van Nistelrooy was the interim coach for four games, where he was unbeaten with three wins and a draw, and he had Manchester United fans buzzing. The former Real Madrid man, along with the fans, was pretty hopeful that he would be a part of the club. United had agreed a contract with the promising Sporting manager Amorim to be the next head coach of the club. However, the Portuguese did not want Van Nistelrooy to be a part of his staff, as he preferred the entire coaching staff to be his own.

Just a few days after Manchester United decided to let go of the 49-year-old, Leicester City was in talks to appoint him as manager, and later, the Foxes officially announced him. On the day he was announced, he revealed he had talks with Ruben Amorim and hinted he may have been let go because his presence might just cause problems for the Portuguese in the future, and he understands that.

“The moment I took over the interim job, what I said was I’m here to help United and to stay to help United, and I meant it. So I was disappointed, very much so, and it hurt I had to leave,’ he said.

‘The only job I would have taken as an assistant manager was at United because of the bond I have with the people in the club, and the fans. In the end, I got my head round it because I also understand the new manager. I’m a manager myself. You can think of a situation, me being there… I understand.” he said.

“I spoke to Ruben about it, fair enough to him. I was grateful for the conversation: man to man, person to person, manager to manager. That helped me a lot to move on, and straightaway get into talks about new possibilities, which of course, lifted my spirits.”

The Manchester United legend emphasized that he would be content with only the assistant manager role at Manchester United out of love for the club. He clearly stated that he understood Amorim's intentions for preferring his own staff as a manager and was glad things worked out the way they did in the end, with Ruud getting a head coach role for himself.
