Ruben Amorim Should Replace Andre Onana With Long-Term Manchester United Target

Manchester United have endured a difficult season, and Ruben Amorim has spent enough time with the squad to assess what changes need to be made. The Portuguese arrived in November and has overseen five wins and six defeats in 13 games.

Goals have been a problem for the Red Devils with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managing just five goals between them. But there have also been issues at conceding, particularly several costly mistakes from United's number one Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper was criticised throughout last season after replacing David de Gea at Old Trafford. He appeared to have turned a corner at the start of the campaign, but dodgy outings against Nottingham Forest (3-0 loss) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (2-0 loss) have re-ignited talk over the 28-year-old's ability to thrive as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Manchester United Are Again Showing Interest in Zion Suzuki

Zion Suzuki has re-emerged as a target for the Red Devils despite turning the club down two years ago. talkSPORT reports that the Japanese goalkeeper is back on the radar and could cost around £40 million.

The 22-year-old has been excellent since joining Parma last summer, keeping three clean sheets in 19 Serie A games. Where Onana perhaps lack a commanding prescence, Suzuki has this in abundance, playing with a fearless character and also being a superb shot-stopper.

Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Suzuki which puts pressure on United to swoop. He has four years left on his contract and Parma want to keep him but acknowledge they could cash in if a lucrative offer is made.

Manchester United's Current Goalkeeping Situation

Onana was benched for United's FA Cup third-round win against Arsenal at the Emirates. This was down to Amorim wanting to rest the Cameroonian and give his understudy Altay Bayindir an opportunity to impress.

Bayindir did just that, flourishing for the Red Devils, with two penalty saves, one during regulation time, and one in the 5-3 penalty shootout win. He looked to be headed for the exit door before his exploits last weekend.

This leaves Onana and Bayindir in an intriguing situation if the club were to move for Suzuki. There's no doubt the former is Amorim's number one but his questionable performances have cast doubt over his future.

Onana has three years left on his contract and there's no suggestion he's unhappy with his situation at the club. But perhaps the pressure of replacing De Gea has become too daunting for the Cameroon international.
