In hindsight, Man United can have no complaints about the 2024 summer transfer window. After all, the Red Devils did anything they needed to do and they managed to save a few pounds on their executed transfers too.

However, things could have looked a lot different for Erik ten Hag's side. Despite strengthening in key areas, they didn't always land their number one options. Luckily, they pulled through with some good backup options.

One of the biggest statement signings in 2024 was Man United signing Leny Yoro. However, it's now been revealed that alongside Matthijs de Ligt, Yoro was not the only centre back targeted by Man United for big money.

Man United were rejected by Tottenham in last transfer window

According to a claim from journalist Gastón Edul, who specialises in Argentinian footballers, Cristian Romero was a subject of interest from Real Madrid, Man United and Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.

However, Man United and the two other European superpowers were rejected from Tottenham Hotspur. In fact, it was a flat-out no from Tottenham, who refused to even quote a price for Romero since they didn't want to slightly entertain any idea of selling him.

Ultimately, Man United can have little regrets. They signed defenders in the summer transfer window, so missing out on Romero is not one to write home about.

While Romero would have been an exceptional signing, it was probably expected that Tottenham wouldn't want to sell Romero, let alone quote a bargain price for him.

Cristian Romero was a hero over the summer. For Argentina, the Tottenham defender lifted the Copa America, playing a key part in asserting Argentina's dominance on the footballing world.

Under Ange Postecoglou, Romero is a key player. So, it was always unlikely he would end up joining Man United.
