Manchester United fans were thrilled when Ruben Amorim took charge for the first time as head coach. Fans worried how he would change the team. Who would excel in his system? Among all the stars on the team, one name has silently started to make an impact: Mason Mount. Could the English midfielder be a crucial part of Amorim's game?

Mount has been noted for his flexibility throughout his career, as he can play central midfield, attacking playmaker, or even out wide. Under Amorim, his function is becoming more specific. In training Mount has recently been tasked with creating opportunities in the attacking third by bridging the gap between the midfield and the attackers and he has been excellent in training sessions.

Amorim is anticipated to use a 3-4-3 formation, which served him well at Sporting CP. This system is different from the 4-2-3-1 setup that United players are used to, therefore adaption will be required. Mount's previous experience with a similar system provides him an advantage. At Chelsea, he frequently played as one of two attacking midfielders or even deeper in midfield roles, making him adaptable enough to match Amorim's plans.

The Athletic reports that Mount has been a standout performer in training. His ability to recover the ball and press high perfectly fits Amorim's idea of an aggressive style of play.

Mount is talented, but injuries have prevented him from making an impact since joining United. He has yet to prove himself worthy of the £60 million fee paid to Chelsea in 2023, and there are doubts about his ability to get back to his previous level of play and make a substantial contribution to the squad. Amorim's presence, nevertheless, might provide a spark for change.

However, Mount's road to become a regular player isn't easy. With six players fighting for just three positions in the starting lineup, Amorim's team is full of attacking skill. It is difficult for any player to establish themselves because of the energy and firepower that Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, and others bring.

Mount sees this season as an opportunity to reinvent himself. Working under a tactically smart coach like Amorim might be a game-changer for him after a mixed start to his Manchester United career. To reach their objectives, United has to find a player who can link midfield and attack with ease.
