Manchester United star Marcus Rashford had his say on the derby victory after being left out of the squad alongside Alejandro Garnacho by Ruben Amorim.
The England International and Garnacho weren't included in the matchday squad for the win over cross-city rivals Manchester City. The duo didn’t even make the bench, and Amorim was firm on his decision. It was reported that Garnacho was involved in a controversy where he was alleged to have leaked team news although those claims weren't confirmed by the club.
Garnacho remained tight lipped over being dropped despite rumors online that he'd grown frustrated with the situation. Fans have taken aim at the 21-year-old‘s attitude and seemingly where it is heading towards. Amorim denied the Argentine was dropped because of supposed team leaking but rather because he wanted an improvement in training and on the pitch.
Rashford, meanwhile, was a spectator of the game at home after being left out of the 19-man squad. Manchester United remarkably fought back from behind at the Etihad and secured a 2-1 victory over their neighbors, with Amad Diallo stealing the spotlights with a stunning performance.
Amad won a penalty after a mistake by Matheus Nunes, in an attempt to recover the ball, he recklessly barged into the Ivorian, and the referee pointed to the spot. Bruno Fernandes fired home the equaliser.
Just two minutes later, Amad sealed the win from a sublime pass by Lisandro Martinez from the back, to which the winger brilliantly controlled the ball and slotted it past Ederson to make it 2-1 and get a deserved victory.
Marcus Rashford took a trip to his old school on an agreed day off to hand out Christmas presents to students. He spoke about his situation (via English journalist Henry Winter on X/Twitter):
“It’s disheartening to be left out of a Derby, but it’s happened, we won the game so let's move on. It’s disappointing but I’m also someone as I’ve got older I can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it. Or do my best the next time I’m available.”
Rashford had initially uploaded a four-word post as a reaction to the win on his Instagram, where he posted:
“Yesssssssss! Love it lads."

Amorim, when asked about the situation regarding the two forwards, explained in the presser after the game:
"I pay attention to everything: the way you eat and put your clothes to go to a game. Everything. I make my evaluation, and then I make my decision. There is a communication after the last training."
Clearly, the Portuguese coach wants to set the standards very high at Manchester United, and for that, he can be super ruthless, even to his club's biggest superstars.
