Despite their rough season, Manchester United fans around the world are always desperate to see their side in action, even if it is just a friendly. The club had already revealed its inclusion in the Premier League Summer Series in the United States. Additionally, the English side is slated to play in Stockholm in July.
Manchester United's postseason in Asia
The club has arranged to play two games in Asia, one in Malaysia and one in Hong Kong. These games are scheduled to be played just days after their final Premier League match against Aston Villa.
The match in Malaysia will come against the ASEAN All Stars on May 28th in Kuala Lumpur. They will then play Hong Kong on the 30th. These matches come on the heels of a tough campaign and will be a wind down as those called up for international duty will jet off to their respective nations after the post season fixtures.
United has said that the post-season tour will be about generating revenue, which is thought to be about £7.8m. The club has a serious financial crisis but is also looking to add multiple players over the summer. The sales of current players will raise some funds, but this tour will also add extra revenue for the club.
Asia holds a significant number of Manchester United fans and soccer fans in general. Many supporters of the club are expected to be in attendance, as are fans of the two opposing clubs. However, some fans are upset with the club's decision to schedule these matches in Asia.
The flight to Malaysia is a 15 hour affair, which will certainly be tiresome after ending their Premier League campaign. There is also always the threat of a major injury for key players during these friendlies. United has already had a longer season due to their success in the Europa League, which could add more matches if the English side makes it through the quarterfinals.
Man United's pre season plans
There will be worries about players suffering injuries and not being ready for the upcoming Premier League season. The fixtures in the U.S. come against three other Premier League sides: West Ham, Everton, and Bournemouth. These will be good challenges and will also allow youth players the opportunity to play with some of the veteran players.
All in all, United look to have a busy offseason, both on and off the pitch. Transfers are expected as Amorim is poised to rebuild the club before his first full Premier League season at the helm. Hopefully, some of the transfers will happen early, which will allow these players to train with the squad before the season begins.
