Manchester United have made the worst start to a Premier League season in the club's history. With just 19 points in 15 games, the Red Devils sit 13th and have already sacked their FA Cup-winning manager, Erik ten Hag, and replaced him with Portuguese Ruben Amorim. The new head coach started on a positive note, going three games unbeaten with two wins but is now dealing with two consecutive losses in a row against Arsenal (2-0) and Nottingham Forest (3-2) in the Premier League.
The 39-year-old specifically said in a presser that the storm would eventually come and everyone associated with the club has to be patient. In his short time at United, he has seen huge issues with the squad, especially the left wing-back position, with Amorim making different tactical tweaks so that he could compensate for Luke Shaw’s and Tyrell Malacia’s fitness concerns.
Manchester United Set Their Sights on AC Milan's Theo Hernandez
According to Calcio Mercato, Manchester United is keeping tabs on one of the best fullbacks in the world, the left-footed Hernandez. Amorim wants a new left wingback sooner rather than later, and the Red Devils prefer to move next month to save their sinking season. Hernandez has been one of the best full-backs in the world over the past few years.
Following his move to AC Milan, the French International has 56 goals and assists in 174 appearances for the Rossoneri, which, as a defender, is extremely impressive. It is reported that the fullback would prefer a January move and not wait for the summer, as his contract expires in June 2026, and there’s no suggestion an extension is forthcoming. The former Real Madrid player, who won the Champions League with Los Blancos in 2018, would be valued at around £50 million, and if United somehow manage to get him, it’ll be an absolute steal.
Milan, however, would ideally not consider a January transfer for their left back. The Rossoneri’s decision not to continue would be a financial call as the player has been playing regularly for them and has also captained the team several times. The only chance of Hernandez leaving in January is his contract, which is in its last year and will expire in June 2026. Milan knows he will get a good fee from him in 2025, or he will leave for a free agent next summer.
Manchester United could face huge competition from the French left-back. The club has been in for his signature for years, and the contract situation might just be a catapult to pounce on the situation. Hernandez would fit in amazingly in Amorim’s wingback system and give United a huge upgrade in attack and defense. However, a January transfer would be perfect for the Red Devils but not for the Italian giants, as they couldn’t land a replacement in time.
