Manchester United have reportedly made Christian Eriksen available for sale in the January transfer window. The Danish midfielder has lost his place in the team under Ruben Amorim and the Red Devils are ready to cash in.

Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that United are willing to listen to offers for Eriksen, 32, next month. His contract expires in the summer and he'll be able to leave as a free agent as things stand.

Eriksen was a prominent member of Erik ten Hag's team earlier this season, managing four goals and three assists in 14 games across competitions. But Amorim's feelings on the former Tottenham playmaker were clear in his side's 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday (December 12).

Eriksen sat on the bench for the entirety of the Red Devils comeback victory in Czechia midweek. Amorim turned to his bench on five occasions but opted not to call upon the veteran midfielder who had bagged two goals and as many assists in four Europa League games beforehand.

The Denmark international gave an update on his future during September's international break. He said (via BBC Sport):

"There's one year left [on United contract] so my focus is going to be on this year, going full out and see what happens afterwards."

Those comments came while Ten Hag was still in charge and he'd enjoyed a decent run in the team under the Dutchman. Amorim's arrival has changed the situation with the Portuguese preferring Manuel Ugarte to partner Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro or Kobbie Mainoo.

Eriksen has been at United since July 2022 when he arrived as a free agent after leaving Brentford. If the Red Devils manage to sell him they'll make a profit on a player who is out of favor under their new coach.

Red Devils Dispatch Verdict

Eriksen has been a good servant for the club in his three years at Old Trafford but he's no longer got the legs required to anchor midfield under Amorim. The fact the Portuguese is willing to use Fernandes in a deeper role and sacrifice his attacking nous speaks volumes.

It will be interesting to see the club's asking price for Eriksen given he's got just months left on his contract. If a departure is sanctioned United should immediately be looking for a replacement.
