Manchester United look to be in a three-horse race for one of the Bundesliga's shining stars who is available next summer. Xavi Simons is ripping it up at RB Leipzig and has been in stellar form this season, with five goals and four assists in 17 games across competitions.

Simons, 21, has joined Leipzig permanently from Paris Saint-Germain midway through his second season on loan at Red Bull Arena. But he could still be on the move next summer amid speculation over another transfer and his price has been revealed.

BILD's Christian Falk reports that the Bundesliga club will listen to offers around €70-€80m for Simons in the summer transfer window. Manchester United are named as one of three Premier League clubs interested in the youngster, alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.

Xavi Simons is a player former United interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will know well having overseen his development at PSV Eindhoven during a loan spell with the Eredivisie giants. He managed 20 goals and 12 assists in 46 games under the Dutchman, playing a variety of roles, including attacking midfield, centre forward and on the wings.

Van Nistelrooy gave a glowing verdict of Simons when speaking in May last year. He said (via One Football):

“Xavi Simons is in the spotlight, he is not a new discovery, but I think that he will continue to grow to a world-class level. I had him at PSV, now he is at Leipzig taking his next steps. I say that he is a player for a great team even as a starter.”

Simons left PSV and returned to PSG in July 2023 but failed to win over the Ligue 1 giants and was sent out on loan to RB Leipzig where he's flourished. But it was during Euro 2024 when the world got a proper look at the versatile Dutch forward.

He managed one goal and three assists in six games at the European Championships in Germany, including a sensational strike in a 2-1 defeat to England in the semi-finals. He was a standout performer for the Netherlands and many were surprised PSG resisted using him in their first-team.

Manchester United are focusing on signing youth talent under INEOS' sporting control amid the expected arrival of Leece winger Patrick Dorgu, 20. He'll join a squad consisting of the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, 19, Alejandro Garnacho, 20, and Amad Diallo, 21.

Simons fits into the criteria of talent the Red Devils' recruitment are eyeing and his potential transfer fee is an enticing opportunity that we can't afford to miss out on. Bruno Fernandes will eventually need replacing and the young Dutch ace's versatility would be perfect for Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system.
