Manchester United have endured a difficult season that has been full of consistent lows and rare highs. A 2-2 draw away to Liverpool has breathed life into Ruben Amorim's reign at Old Trafford after a dismal December period.
However, for one player, the writing has long been on the wall at United, and it's clear he's not going to have a resurgence under Amorim. There comes a point when a player must accept that they aren't going to make it with the Red Devils for several reasons.
Antony joined Manchester United from Ajax in August 2022 with the world at his feet. A Brazilian trickster who lit up the Johan Cruyff Arena, he arrived at Old Trafford for a hefty £81.3 million, a fee that has always plagued him every time he's worn Red Devil colours.
Antony Must Leave Manchester United To Revive Career
Antony's United spell has been a massive failure because of the huge expectations that came with his price-tag. Erik ten Hag wanted a reunion with the Brazil international but arguably not at the price the club paid.
The 24-year-old has shown passion for the club each time he's played but the ability, or lack of, has not been a hit with fans. He's become predictable, ineffective and, at times, too temperamental. The only way for Antony to get his career back on track is to leave.
He has two years left on his contract but there's little hope of him reclaiming a starting role under Ruben Amorim. He'd lost his place under Ten Hag, a manager who was influental in his development.
A January Loan Could Work
Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that Greek outfit Olympiakos have asked for Antony on loan. It's noted that a deal is complicated, but the Brazilian is available this month.
If there's any chance of getting Antony off the wage books and potentially igniting his permanent departure than United should give the green light. A major overhaul is needed to help Amorim implement his football philosophy and his 3-4-3 formation.
That starts with hurling out the Ten Hag waste that unfortunately don't fit into the new coach's vision. Antony has managed 12 goals and five assists in 94 games since joining United. That's remarkably poor for a winger who is the club's second most expensive signing in history.
Amorim Can Find A Replacement
Fichajes.net (via GIVEMESPORT) reports that United are eyeing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroonian can play on the right wing and is one of the Premier League's in-form attackers, bagging 13 goals in 20 league games.
Mbeumo, 25, is the type of signing that fits Amorim's vision because he's hardworking, relentless in the press and has a proven goalscoring resume. Goals have been a problem this season and adding them from out wide will be of huge use.
The Red Devils are considering a £43 million offer for Mbeumo who has a year left on his contract. It's a transfer move that makes so much sense and should lead to Antony's departure.
