Manchester United is reportedly on the brink of signing Sporting CP’s young winger Geovany Quenda after the player has agreed personal terms with the club. The 17 year old, whose explosive performances have caught the eye across Europe, could soon be making his way to Old Trafford under manager Ruben Amorim.

Quenda has been brilliant for Sporting this season where he has been comfortable playing both as a traditional winger and a wing-back as well, something Amorim will be very interested to sign for his preferred 3-4-2-1 setup. Despite just 17, Quenda has shown immense potential and has already bagged 2 goals and seven assists in 39 appearances this season. His speed, skill on the ball, and natural ability to beat defenders make him a tantalizing prospect for United, especially as they look to inject some fresh energy into their attacking ranks amid a misfiring season upfront.

TalkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs revealed, “The player has agreed verbally to personal terms. He’s waiting to see whether the clubs come to a pre-agreement or if the transfer gets delayed until the summer.” While United’s valuation of Quenda is reported to be around €40 million, Sporting is asking for closer to €60 million, with a hefty release clause of €100 million in place. Despite the big figure, there is optimism at Old Trafford that a deal could be made with Sporting without breaking the bank as Manchester United is already under immense financial pressures.

Amorim, who joined Manchester United in November after a successful spell at Sporting has played a crucial role in Quenda’s development as the Portuguese handed him his senior debut at Sporting. Ruben Amorim is said to be highly impressed by the teenager and is keen on the move. Knowing Quenda well, Amorim will have an interesting choice and a future potential star at his disposal if United and Sporting can come up with terms for the teenager’s transfer. Amorim’s influence and Quenda’s familiarity with the Amorim system will be a definite advantage for United in the race for his signature as European clubs including Arsenal and PSG are also showing interest in the youngster.

For Manchester United, the signing of Quenda isn’t and shouldn’t be just about immediate impact as he is just 17 and has got a lot of years ahead for development. Surely, the club will be able to have a massive talent at their disposal if they can make the transfer but his transition into the team will be a steady and patient affair. While the current United frontline is misfiring at the moment, Quenda’s arrival may give Amorim a good option in terms of creativity and pace. His ability to adapt to different roles on the flank fits perfectly with Amorim’s tactical plans as he aims to steady the ship for Manchester United.

As negotiations continue and an agreement on personal terms with the player, all eyes will be on whether Manchester United can agree a transfer fee with Sporting ahead of the summer transfer window.
