Manchester United take on Lyon at Parc Olympique Lyonnais for the first leg of the competition's quarterfinals. With both teams looking to seal their place in the Champions League next season, the two sides will need to be at their best.
Manchester United Team News
Ruben Amorim held his press conference today, which provided an update on the status of a key player. Kobbie Mainoo, who has not featured since February, has been back in training and has been included in the United squad to face Lyon. Mainoo will have a chance to start in midfield, but Amorim might prefer to keep him on the bench and substitute him later in the match.
Unfortunately, United will be without the veteran defender Matthijs de Ligt and young midfielder Toby Collyer. Both missed the game against Manchester City at the weekend and are still working to improve. De Ligt is understood to have an injury with his foot and the timeline for his return has not yet been established. Collyer has sustained a knock in his leg, but he is not expected to be out long term.
Amorim has confirmed a starter: goalkeeper Andre Onana. Onana has been facing a battle online with former United midfielder Nemanja Matic. Onana will need to be sharp in goal to avoid embarassment after his comments.
Lyon Team News
Lyon has been facing their own injury crisis with attacker Ernest Nuamah acquiring an ACL injury over the weekend. They are also without Malick Fofana, who is a young winger who has shown great potential. Both of these injuries could be crucial as United have struggled defensively this season.
Lyon still have their top striker Alexandre Lacazette, who is a former Arsenal man. Lacazette will be desperate to score against the Premier League side and continue his good run of form. Matic will also be looking to put on a performance, if only to gloat in front of Onana after their online run in.
