Manchester United are expected to undergo a huge rebuild in the summer transfer window with pretty much every player available for the right price. In-form Ivorian attacker Amad and summer signing Leny Yoro are reportedly the only two 'untouchables', per GIVEMESPORT.
Two players who have endured topsy-turvy seasons are Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez. The defensive duo should have made for a formidable partnership but that hasn't been the case amid a disastrous campaign for the team as a collective.
De Ligt joined United last summer from Bayern Munich for a purpoted £42.7 million (including add-ons). The Dutch defender's reputation as one of Europe's best centre-backs has faded over the years and he's made an inconsistent start to life with the Red Devils.
Martinez has been with United since July 2022 when he arrived from Ajax in a £57 million deal. The Argentine shined in his debut season at Old Trafford but has been poor this term after returning from spells on the sidelines.
Paul Scholes: I'd Sell De Ligt and Martinez

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes gave his take on Ruben Amorim's squad amid a likely overhaul. He was tasked with keeping or selling several players including De Ligt and Martinez.
Scholes admitted he'd sell the defensive duo which comes as a surprise given their consistent game time this season. He told TNT Sports:
"He's done OK of late but I think I'd sell... same, done ok of late, but I think I'd sell."
Scholes is well within his rights to give such a verdict given De Ligt and Martinez's struggles. They have both played a role in one of the worst seasons in the club's history, with Amorim's men sitting 13th and having conceded 32 goals in 22 games.
De Ligt, 25, has occasionally been dominant at the back and used his strength and aerial abilities to good effect. But there have been several dissapointing outings, including his display in a 2-2 against Liverpool.
Martinez, 27, has encountered an alarming nosedive after dealing with an injury throughout last season. He looks vulnerable on the ball and nervy at times.

Could Manchester United Sell The Pair?

Who knows what the future holds regarding Manchester United's squad once this season concludes. De Ligt seems unlikely to be sold, given he only arrived last summer, but the Dutchman could find himself playing backup to a potential acquisition if Amorim opts to sign a new centre-back.
Martinez is the one whose future is up in the air amid his fall from grace. He was signed by Erik ten Hag, his former Ajax manager, and now he's gone the jury is out on how succesful his transfer has been. He has two years left on his contract and has been linked with Real Madrid, per Sky Sports.
