Manchester United fans have thrown their support behind Alejandro Garnacho after his excellent cameo appearance in a 3-0 win against Leicester City. The Argentine winger came off the bench and scored a stunning goal as Ruud van Nistelrooy's reign as interim manager ended with a win.
Garnacho, 20, had come under scrutiny recently with many questioning his consistency and end-product. This was despite the Red Devils academy graduate being the club's top scorer and looking the biggest threat of any attacker this season.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for United with a fine finish before forcing an own goal from Victor Kristiansen. It was Garnacho who rounded off a perfect end to Van Nistelrooy's short spell in charge, cutting inside and firing from outside the box with aplomb.
Garnacho took his tally for the season to seven goals and four assists in 18 games across competitions. He has shown his versatility, playing on the right and left wing.
Manchester United fans praise Alejandro Garnacho
Garnacho's outing led to widespread praise from fans on social media who lambasted those who have tried taking digs at the winger as of late. His teammates were also seen throwing their support behind him after the game.
One fan alluded to Garnacho still developing and dubbed him a 'fantastic talent'. He wrote on X/Twitter:
"Great to see Garnacho score today. Fantastic talent. Weird to see the criticism he gets. Plays a lot of football, very young with loads of room to improve. No one is the finished article at that age and look what he's already done. Get behind him."
Another fan seemingly sent a message to one fan who rudely advised Garnacho on how to perform midweek. He wrote:
"Make your apologies loud as the disrespect."
Here's more reactions from fans:
"He is a special player" Bruno Fernandes on Alejandro Garnacho
Garnacho initially didn't celebrate amid the recent social media abuse he's received, but Fernandes urged the Argentina international to celebrate his fine strike. The Portuguese playmaker spoke after the game (via the United Zone on X):
"I told him to celebrate, it was something special. He is a special player, we have difference makers. They are the ones who win us games. We want them to score very game but that isn't going to happen."
Garnacho has come in and out of United's starting XI this season and many ponder whether he's best used as an impact sub. His direct approach coincides with impressive pace and an eye for goal that gives defenders problems.
