It feels like every summer is billed as this but under the new regime this is going to be the case with talents like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo already mooted to be leaving the club in a bid to help with PSR issues. This means that fringe players on higher wages will also be moved on from the club.

One of those players expected to be leaving is Christian Eriksen whose contract is up at the end of the season. It was fully expected that Eriksen's time at Old Trafford was coming to an end but he has since come out to explain that he is expecting to leave the club when his contract is up.

Eriksen and United

Eriksen, who joined in 2022 from Brentford, has found it difficult to break into the team following a good start to his Manchester United career. Up until a horrific tackle by Andy Carroll in an FA Cup clash Eriksen looked to be a shrewd signing by Erik ten Hag but this latest setback seemed to really put Eriksen back even further following his miracoulos recovery from his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

It is quite evident that Eriksen has not "got the legs" for playing week in week out if he is to be influential and when manager Ruben Amorim demands work rate, unfortunately Eriksen is unable to deliver.

Eriksen's clears the Air

Eriksen was posed the question by Danish media and stated communication with the club had not been forthcoming but he fully expects what the outcome will be. He said, "I haven't heard anything from the club, and therefore I assume that the collaboration will stop, that's how I interpret it,"

"My contract expires this summer and I am prepared to find something new. I am fine with that. Where it will be, I haven't decided yet.

The 140 times capped Danish international is not being rushed into making any decisions and is weighing up his options stating that playing in Europe will still be beneficial for his career.

"I am waiting and seeing what offers come in. I am not going to make any hasty decisions, but if the right thing comes, I will take it - but I don't know what the right thing is.

"The intention is not to stay in England. I am not going to the USA, we are not going that far. We would like to stay in Europe, but it is too early to go home to Denmark. I feel like I have some good years abroad left."

Till the end of the season

So with not too many games to go in the Premier League season, Eriksen will be hoping he can give his all to Manchester Untied as they look to move up the table as well as look to win the Europa League adding that to his League Cup and FA Cup Winners medals.

With United's last home game taking place against Aston Villa likely to be a dead rubber for United, it is expected that this will be Eriksen's last game for the Red Devils.
