Manchester United's academy is among the world's most esteemed, producing iconic former players such as Ryan Giggs, Sir Bobby Charlton and David Beckham. The Red Devils are notorious for using youth even during modern times, with the club struggling post-Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, there have been several youngsters who United have been impatient with and opted to part ways. This lack of time spent developing talent has sometimes come back to haunt the club, most recently the Reds' former striker Danny Welbeck who struck in a 2-1 win for Brighton earlier this season.

Andreas Pereira rose through the ranks at Carrington before debuting at senior level in 2015. The Brazilian playmaker struggled for first-team opportunities and spent much of his Old Trafford career out on loan.

Pereira has given his thoughts on Manchester United's youth strategy. The 28-year-old feels the club should have bided their time longer with himself and three former teammates. He said (via centredevils):

"I think that, in certain signings, the club could have trusted more in the youth players. In me, Angel [Gomes], McTominay, Lingard, these players. They even play well, but then, at the first opportunity the club gets, they discard them."

Pereira made 75 senior appearances for United over seven years, posting four goals and five assists. His longest run in the first-team came during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign, including a memorable 25-yard strike against Southampton in 2019.

The Brazilian left the Red Devils for Fulham in July 2022 for an initial £10 million and he's excelled at Craven Cottage. The versatile playmaker has registered nine goals and 15 assists in 91 games for Marco Silva's Cottagers.

Angel Gomes, 24, left Manchester United in August 2020 although the English midfielder let his contract expire. He's been touted as a potential future transfer for the club with his LOSC Lille deal expiring at the end of the season.

Scott McTominay, 27, is the most recent departure, joining Serie A giants Napoli in a £30 million deal last summer. The Scot was a prominent member of United's squad for several years and is flourishing at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Jesse Lingard, 31, may be the most contentious suggestion made by Pereira given his rocky spell at Old Trafford. The English winger scored an iconic FA Cup final winner in 2016 but there were some issues with his professionalism. His best spell came out on loan at West Ham United and he's currently at K League 1 outfit FC Seoul.
