Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has delivered a stark warning to his squad ahead of a pivotal summer, declaring that players who “harm the team” will be sold as the club prepares for a major overhaul. In a candid pre-Fulham press conference, the Portuguese tactician admitted some stars already know their time at Old Trafford is up.

Amorim, known for his direct communication, left no room for ambiguity: “I don’t like to be ruthless just to show strength. If the team is trying and they can’t deliver, I’m patient. But if someone harms the team, I’ll act.” The 40-year-old, who sanctioned loan exits for Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia in January, confirmed more departures are inevitable. “Everybody understands that in football, sometimes you stay, sometimes you move on. I’m honest with my players—they know some must leave.”

United’s dire Financial Fair Play position means sales must fund summer signings. Reports suggest up to 15 players could depart, though Amorim tempered expectations: “We can talk about that in the end - now there are still a lot of games to play. But that is clear and not a difficult situation.” High-earners like Casemiro and Jadon Sancho top the exit list, while out-of-contract veterans like Johhny Evans and Christian Eriksen won’t be renewed. Similarly, United loaned out Rashford, Antony and Malacia in the January window and all three are expected to leave as well.

Amorim had a relatively quiet January window where Dorgu was the only major business alongside youngster Heaven from Arsenal. However, Dorgu has had a mixed start to life at United as he currently is out for three games after his straight red card against Ipswich Town while Heaven remains unproven.

Amorim’s blunt approach has been tough at times on the dressing room. “If I know how to explain it, I will do so because I like to be clear. I was a player and like to use that experience - when you are honest with someone, they can take it,” Amorim stated. His preferred 3-4-3 formation has alienated some players and has restricted their natural gamestyle, but Amorim remains unyielding in his approach, indicating adaptable players becoming part of the fold in the summer transfer window.

With United 14th in the Premier League, their worst position in decades, Amorim faces a difficult time ahead. However, United are in contention for both the FA Cup and Europa League. United face Fulham in the FA Cup this Sunday evening while Real Sociedad will be their opponent in the Europa League Round of 16.
