Ruben Amorim's first home game in charge of Manchester United ended with an expected victory, but they made hard work of it. The Red Devils came from behind to win 3-2 against Norweigan outfit Bodo/Glimt team who were a tough nut to crack.
The win was largely thanks to Rasmus Hojlund, who scored a clinical double, which helped his club regain the lead and found much-needed confidence and clinicality in front of goal. Despite the win, it was another frustrating night for the forwards, except for Hojlund, who came to the rescue for the Red Devils.
The Danish striker scored 16 goals for Manchester United last season. Despite injury concerns, he was the club's top scorer, and the club finished 8th, its worst season finish in Premier League history.
Hojlund has already missed seven games this season and was out for nearly 50 days early, suffering from a hamstring injury. He has been a victim of the lack of service provided to him, which has been his story since the start of his Red Devils career.
Rasmus Hojlund Man-of-the-Match as Manchester United beat Bodo/Glimt
Hojlund has also struggled with poor decision-making at times, which has primarily affected the youngster’s confidence. He finally found the goalscoring touch today with a superb brace. His first goal was an absolute peach, as Noussair Mazraoui beat his man and sent a curling delivery into the box. The Dane slotted it beautifully with a touch cushioned finish into the bottom right.
The striker’s second goal showed excellent offensive positioning. He was at the right place at the right time following a slick passing move from United, ending with Ugarte driving into the box and sending a low cross towards Hojlund, who couldn’t miss.
Manchester United Fans Hail Rasmus Hojlund
Fans were impressed with Hojlund’s clinical performance today with one fan who wrote on X:
"That was a Rasmus Hojlund performance."
Another fan was equally as impressed:
He has always been the main man!! You all just trying to force Marcus Rashford into the conversation."
Manchester United have shown today why they were named the comeback kings, and Hojlund was at the forefront. Amorim's Old Trafford debut was in no way a stroll in the park, as they gave away the lead after Alejandro Garnacho had put them in front in the first minute.
Bodo/Glimt responded immediately after conceding with a slick move to make it 1-1. Shortly after, a quick counter-attack made it 2-1, where Tyrell Malacia was outpaced. It was unfortunately evident that he is no longer the player he once was, and it forced him to get subbed at halftime, likely due to the extended injury concerns that kept him sidelined throughout last season.
