Attending the 2024 Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris, Alejandro Garnacho made a weird comment about a Man City player. Man United fans won't like it...
This week, the 2024 Ballon d'Or ceremony has rocked the footballing world. Last night, Rodri was announced as the winner of the infamous golden ball. Many fans thought that it would be Vinicius Junior.
For Man United, it is never nice to see Man City achieving glory. So, seeing Rodri lift the Golden Ball and being the first Premier League player to do so since Cristiano Ronaldo would not have been nice.
However, Alejandro Garnacho has further rubbed salt into those wounds. He made a weird comment about Rodri, belittling the Manchester rivalry almost entirely.
Alejandro Garnacho makes a weird comment about Man City player
Out of all the players nominated for the Ballon d'Or, Alejandro Garnacho chose Rodri as the one player he would like to play with the most.
Considering that Rodri plays for Man City, local rivals of Man United, we surely don't need to remind Garnacho why this comment was best avoided. It completely downplays the Manchester rivalry, which has lost a lot of its legitimacy in recent seasons anyway.
We are not accusing Garnacho for wanting to play for Man City. We are certain this was not his aim by answering the hypothetical answer. However, it was certainly a weird answer to give to the question.
Alejandro Garnacho would have shown support to his Man United teammate Kobbie Mainoo at the 2024 ceremony in Paris, who came third in the rankings for the 2024 Kopa Trophy. He was second, only behind Lamine Yamal and Arda Guler - Great company, it must be said.
Man United fans will only hope that Man City achieve less success this season, so Man City will be knocked off their Ballon d'Or perch next season.
