Ruud van Nistelrooy has made it clear he wants to stay at Manchester United beyond his interim role. The iconic Dutchman returned to Old Trafford to form part of Erik ten Hag's backroom staff but finds himself taking charge of a club of whom he spent six trophy-laden years with as a player.
The Red Devils held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw on Sunday (November 3). It was a dull affair but there was nothing boring about Van Nistelrooy's prescence on the touchline. The former PSV Eindhoven boss was passionate throughout, jumping in the air with delight when Bruno Fernandes fired in the opener.
Van Nistelrooy awaits Ruben Amorim's arrival at Manchester United and is still to discover whether he'll form part of the Portuguese's backroom staff. He wants to continue with the Reds and its fair to say the fans are eager for him to do so.

In any other case you could argue against keeping any of the coaching staff that preceeded Amorim. We've been through many ex-United players forming a coaching team such as Ryan Giggs with Louis van Gaal and Michael Carrick with Jose Mourinho.
In the latter case Carrick has grown into a first-team manager who is impressing in the EFL Championship with Middlesbrough. Van Nistelrooy is at the stage of his managerial career where he has already coached at senior level with PSV.
Van Nistelrooy has the respect of the United players and that's been clear through his short interim reign. He's also the type of character who is prepared to give his thoughts on fixing the club and this will only help Amorim get started in his goal of transforming the Reds back into one of Europe's elite.
Van Nistelrooy can shut the Manchester United pundits up

Manchester United have been poor, there's no escaping that but the noise created by ex-Red Devil players turned pundits only makes matters worse. Gary Neville was anti-United on commentary for Sky Sports during the draw against Chelsea.
Paul Scholes and Roy Keane have been outspoken but their voices go beyond criticism and turn into mockery. Harry Maguire knows all about this, with the latter even apologising for going a step too far with the English defender.
Van Nistelrooy knows these individuals and hopefully can point out how disruptive they are. Yes, your job is to critique, but some of these United icons are forgetting about the club and the pressure that comes with representing it. They let rip at the Red Devils lot tonight who are clearly waiting for their new permanent manager in a phase of transition.
Van Nistelrooy can explain to Amorim where it went wrong FOR Erik ten Hag
Ruud van Nistelrooy on Erik ten Hag: "I saw him on Monday and spoke to him before the (Leicester) game. He was disappointed and touched because he really cared for the club. That’s why he’s also hurt that he had to leave but also proud of his achievement here winning the two… pic.twitter.com/tEkv1ldA9r

It was clear throughout the last year of Erik ten Hag's tenure at Manchester United that there were issues between the manager and the players. Those problems came to ahead on several occasions, including the controversial departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.
There is always this idea that the players have downed tools for the manager when it comes to United faltering. It's an argument that although makes sense, doesn't make their individual abilities dissapear.
Ten Hag struggled with motivating his players and maybe lacked a charisma to do so. Amorim has this in abundance but would only further benefit from the respect Van Nistelrooy has of players.
Van Nistelrooy can also give Amorim an insight into where Ten Hag felt his reign collapsed and why. He's been a fly on the wall during the end point of a rocky relationship between the Dutchman and the squad.
